What is Counselling?

The aim of counselling is to help an individual to live a more resourceful and satisfying life. Counselling takes place within a supportive relationship with somebody who is trained to help you to explore difficulties and problems in your life. Often, people find that by talking things through with a person who has been trained to help, they feel less confused and better able to make the changes which they need to improve the quality of their life.

Who comes for Counselling?

We all have painful times in our lives which cause us to question ourselves and the meaning we attach to life. Things that have happened in the past, painful events in the present and worries about the future can all affect the way that we cope on a daily basis.

Many people seek counselling because they feel that they need help with a particular issue. Perhaps they are grieving or suffering from loss - this could be the loss of someone they care about, the loss of a job, or a way of life which they previously enjoyed. Maybe they are experiencing problems in relationship communication or are suffering from panic attacks and are feeling anxious or depressed. Some might feel that they don't have a particular issue - it's just that life isn't as they would like it to be, or maybe they seem to find themselves in a similar (uncomfortable) position again and again and are unable to recognise, or to stop, the process which led them to this point. Or they might just be wondering how to build low self-esteem.

Counselling will help you to focus on your difficulties and, together with your counsellor, you can explore different ways of addressing your issues so that you may begin to feel that life is more comfortable and beneficial for you.

What is Online Counselling?

Online counselling provides an opportunity to explore a personal difficulty in a confidential and supportive environment of your choice, for example, from the comfort of your own home. Many find the flexibility of online counselling both convenient and comfortable as they are able to access counselling support at a time and in a place which is convenient to them. Online counselling can provide support for a broad range of personal difficulties, but there are occasions where it would not be considered suitable, for example, where a client is at risk. If this applies to you either when seeking support or during ongoing sessions, I will offer you information as to alternative sources of support for you to contact.

Why do people come for Online Counselling?

Online counselling may be able to help with many issues including abuse, anxiety, stress, depression, loneliness, relationship problems, bereavement, self-esteem, sexual orientation, sexual abuse, discrimination, pet bereavement, and many more.

However, not all types of issues can be resolved through online counselling and I will advise you if face to face counselling or some other form of support might be more suitable for you.
